This morning we woke up to overcast skies and light but persistent rain. Last night we came to Lexington and met up with Doug and his family of Troutstream who hosted us at their home a couple of weeks ago in Ohio. When we left, we had made tentative plans to meet up again in Kentucky to do some Kentucky trail hiking: The Bourbon Trail.
Now that Halloween is over, the girls are going through a little bit of post trick-0r-treat depression. It might have something to do with the massive amounts of sugar they consumed last night or the fact that we will be leaving Louisville tomorrow.
Tomorrow we would have been in Louisville for a week and also that many nights away from the Mish. Since Yoda had to stay back in there, I have been going there every 2 or 3 days to check on her. The nights here are getting pretty chilly and since I don’t have electrical hookups at the storage place, she is having to snuggle up in the bedding to keep warm at night. That is pretty much the only thing I worry about since we have been here as Carrie has been a gracious host. The only bigger problem I foresee is to talk the girls into leaving here and go back to sleeping on the road again.
We have been expecting the temperature to drop here in Louisville and today is the day. It had been t-shirt and shorts weather for the last few days since we left Ohio and today we awoke to find our Indian summer had finally ended.
As I was packing up to get ready to leave the Kentucky Horse Park this morning, I struck up a conversation with our new neighbors who came to the campground yesterday afternoon in their new 2012 Casita camper. I have always been a fan of the Casitas and Scamps. They are great little campers and if we didn’t have kids and pets, it would make an ideal, go-anywhere kind of camper.
Mila decided that her first day in Kentucky was worthy of a new milestone. We haven’t boondocked since before Jackson Center and this morning, we woke up in the parking lot of the Walmart in Georgetown, Kentucky. It is warm and beautiful here and we let the girls do some arts and crafts before packing up and heading to Lexington. Just as we are cleaning up, we noticed about 3 inches of baby curls on the dinette table.
Today is Monday and it is back to the regularly scheduled programs for the Trouts. Doug headed to work and the boys took school buses to their respective schools this morning. Only Melizza and Lucy are left as we were packing up and getting ready to leave.
Often when we are visiting friends new and old during our travels, we are presented with a action-packed, non-stop itinerary. We appreciate the gesture completely but sometimes we just want to relax and take it easy. Doug and Melizza have been reading our blog for awhile and they understand that as fellow travelers and Airstreamers. Today, we are just going to do spend the day hanging out together and we couldn’t have hoped for more beautiful weather.
Last night we arrived at the Troutstream headquarters for a few nights of courtesy parking. We are happy to be reunited with our new friends. It’s been two weeks since we met them at Ludington State Park in Michigan and as you can tell, the leaves here have been busy changing color and falling.
Our last ‘free’ night at the Terraport would probably be the last full hookup site we will be at for a long time to go. From here we are going to be courtesy parking at the Troutstream compound, then off for a couple nights of boondocking before finally getting into Louisville to see our friend Carrie. We will need to store the Airstream somewhere during our stay there that can accommodate Yoda to stay in the Airstream without costing us too much dough. God knows we left it all here in Jackson Center.
This morning we set our alarm and were ready before the sun even arose at 7 am for the tractor to come hitch up and tow the Airstream back into the service bay. We all crashed early the night before after a long day so we were at least well rested.
I opened my eyes this morning when we heard a knock on the door. I looked over at the clock on the nightstand that only works when we are plugged in and it read 7AM. It was still dark outside. I remembered that I had only been asleep for about 4 hours as I wiggled my way out of bed, put on my sweat pants and opened the door. It was the tractor. I thought, “Oh crap, we are not even close to being ready.”
