Our gracious hosts, Tiffany and Sean, extended their offer for us to courtesy park for as long as we wanted to stay. But before we wore out our welcome, we decided to try our luck with Clear Creek in Golden again. This time, we were able to lock in an electric-only site for the next few days.
We woke up this morning to the sound of trucks, trailers and people shuffling around the rally field. Today is departure day and most people got an early start. I packed most of our gear away and scaled back to our basic boondocking setup last night so we can just kick back and wait until most people have left before we make our move.
Last night’s amusement park rides wiped everyone out and we all slept in until close to 9am. Today is out last full day here at Alumafandango and we are hoping to attend as many events as we can fit it.
On day 4 of Alumafandango, the awesomeness continued. Today, the local PBS station came by in the morning to do a piece on vintage trailers and interviewed our neighbor Diane who is the proud owner of 4 vintage Airstreams and a Spartan. They even came by our trailer for just a minute to video us working on our computers as some b-roll that will probably never see the light of day.
Our 3rd day of Alumafandango started with Mila getting a tummy ache and throwing up her breakfast all over the Airstream floor. Our poor little girl was not a happy camper and she and Marlene decided to stay in for the morning until things turned around for her.
On this trip, we have all been sleeping in until 9am. Even Luka. It’s been wonderful. But today we are at Alumafandango and we had things to do! So no sleeping in. Wah wah wah.
Our 2 nights at Clear Creek was great and we were fortunate to luck out on such a nice location. We are going to have to come back another time to do more exploring in Golden. But today, we have a date to keep in Lakeside. It is the first day of Alumafandango and registration starts at 9am.
Tomorrow we are headed to the inaugural Alumafandango Airstream event in Lakeside a few miles down the road so today will be our last day here in Golden. The original plan was to go spend the day in the Golden Community Center which seemed a lot like the community center we loved so much in Fruita. But after all, it is Monday. That means I am stuck in the Airstream corresponding and working with my clients while Marlene and the kids had to find something else to do.
We got into the greater Denver area last night after the drive over the Rockies. We were beat and needed a place to crash. Marlene called up the Walmart and they gladly took in 5 weary travelers in their parking lot for the night.
Fruita, Colorado has treated us really well since we reemerged into civilization after our 10-day stint in Utah. We needed the 5-day stay to unwind and take things easy. Especially for Marlene who was on the verge of a panic attack after 10 days of driving through some of the most amazing but hair-raising mountain roads via Scenic Byways 12 and 24.
