There are actually two trailers here on display that are not actually vintage in any way, shape or form. One of them is the prototype Sterling model Airstream brought with them and the other one is this custom built coach by Timeless Travel Trailers of Denver, Colorado.
There was nothing at the vintage trailer show more unique than the Decoliner by the master craftsman Randy Grubb.
If this vehicle doesn’t scream one-of-a-kind, then there is no such thing.
We spent both Thursday and Friday night away from the Airstream and were glad to be back in it on Saturday. We had settled in comfortably for a 5 nights before the detour and it felt strange to be sleeping in our beds those nights as visitors in our own home. We finally made it back to attend the Vintage Trailer Show that was the main reason for our trip.
We pumped ourselves full of Mexican breakfast food in the morning before heading to the show but not without a photo op of Mila with the restaurant’s mascot. I have no idea how to explain this one. It just felt right to post it.
The girls slept hard and woke up refreshed after our day at the Ace Hotel. We are expecting a few more days of warm weather here in the desert so we are going to take full advantage of it. That means we are going back to the Ace Hotel for more.
A year ago today, we were right here in Palm Springs for Modernism Week 2011. We decided to check out the Ace Hotel that we have been hearing so much about. In fact, Mila was so impressed by it, she wrote a post about it. Just because of that, we had to come back and pay it another visit this time around.
One day our girls will be faced with that all-too-familiar “what are you going to do with your life” question. Since we are not ready yet to give them the Mish so they can roam around the world aimlessly, we thought we should start getting them acquainted with the real world by going to the Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert in Rancho Mirage today.
Of course we started the day with a healthy and nutritiously balanced breakfast of carbs and more carbs.
Since we got back from our southwest trip last fall to the hot air balloon festival in Albuquerque, we have been letting the Mish sit and rot away on the driveway. Not because we didn’t want to hit the road but we just had way too many other things to think about for the time being. But now, the time has come. We are on the road again. Even if it is only for 10 days.
In 2 weeks, the annual Modernism Week event will be back at Palm Springs along with the vintage trailer show. Our visit last year got us up close and personal to some of the most amazing vintage trailers we have ever seen. With the baby due in just 3 months, we need to get a good week of camping in before things get really hectic. So we did it, we booked 7 nights at our favorite campground in the Coachella Valley, Lake Cahuilla County Park.

We have been waiting for this for 2 years and finally it is here. Rich from Airstream Life just announced via his Twitter account that there will be a new Airstream event called Alumafandango on the West Coast!
We have been asked a few times about nice places to camp in southern California. We spent a lot of time on the road so we actually don’t have a ton of experience locally. That said, we do have some favorite spots we’d like to share from this part of the country. Some of these places we regularly visit while others we have only been once or twice. Nonetheless, we can not wait to go again whenever we get a chance. Here is a run down of a few of our favorite local camping spots.

Our southwest 2011 trip has come to an end and today we are headed back home. This trip has been fun but much too short at only 2 weeks. It is probably also going to be one of our last trips until next year so we are savoring every last moment we have.
As a kid in Las Vegas, there isn’t a whole lot to do. After all, it is Sin City. Pretty much the opposite of what you want to teach your kids. If there is one place on the strip to take your kids, it is Circus Circus.
