If rarity is your thing, this 1946 Curtis Wright trailer should be right up your alley. Some had said that there are only 7 of these babies left in existence as this trailer was only made for one year by Curtis Wright Travel Trailers. I have not seen the other 6 but I am pretty sure it can’t look prettier than this one.

Curtis Wright trailers are special because there is a significance in their association with Airstreams. After World War II, Curtis Wright moved to Los Angeles and hired Wally Byam to work in his new manufacturing plant to build travel trailers. Their partnership was short lived and after they parted ways, Wally began building trailers under his own brand famously named as Airstreams and Curtis eventually became Silver Streak trailers.

This Curtis Wright was meticulously rebuilt with the original design as more of an inspiration.

Much of the original 1940s look and feel was kept with obviously new wooden cabinets and panels built to be a close approximation of the original.

Although not a 100% faithful refurb, it definitely takes you back in time when you are standing in this beautiful mid-century trailer.

Who’s in for a quick game of cribbage? Or maybe watch me shoot the moon in hearts?

The sink, counter top and stove are all brand new and would make this trailer a great weekender.

I bet that twill upholstery on the convertible bed isn’t too bad to sleep on either. I wonder if the owners will mind if I borrowed her for a few days….

over and out,
dan

I own one of the seven! Just had it restored. This one was done by Flyte Camp, correct? Message me if you want to see what I’ve got cooking. This one is stunning!

I am one of the seven also! Hey Andria! What does yours look like?

I have an original 1946 Model 2 Serial number 5318 – not restored but in fine shape. I don’t know if it is an 8th one or one of the 7 mentioned.

Hi I just acquired #5323 and seeing yours has inspired me to restore mine in a similar style.

I have owned a Model 2 since 1972. It’s a bit rough but still has many of the original cabinets, the sink and the ice box. A restorer wants to buy it but I have no clue what to ask.

I own one of the survivors also. I have documented 16 different serial numbers for the Curtis Wright model 2. I’ll start the restoration in the summer of 2015.
