Today the forecast calls for thunderstorms in the morning. And they weren’t kidding. We took a gamble and went to the zoo yesterday and the weather held up the entire day. We didn’t want to try our luck two days in the row so we planned on a day at the campground today which turns out to be a good idea.

walking to the office.

Marlene and Ava took the opportunity in the morning to get some housekeeping work done at the campground office to mail off some letters and fax off some work related paperwork. They got out before the rain started but brought their umbrellas with them just in case.

Here is a neat little poster on the wall of the office that shows just how close we are to the zoo. I think there are a couple of Airstreams there in the picture along with all of the other Class A RVs so popular with the snowbirds.

waiting for rain to stop.

Just as they got done with their business, the rain started to pour. And it really pour. So much so that it was too much to walk in it even with umbrellas. Since Mila and I stayed back in the Airstream and Marlene didn’t bring her phone with her, we had no idea why it was taking so long.

down pour.

A couple of the thunders sounded like they were really close to us so I quickly lowered our TV antenna and everything that could potentially turn us into burnt toast in the tin box.

As if on queue, right when the clock hit 2 PM, the storm subsided just as the weatherman said it would. Marlene and Ava finally got their chance to come home. I guess sooner or later, the weatherman will get it right given enough tries.

leaky roof.

Inside the Airstream, we noticed a little leakage from the hard rain we had this morning. Inside the bathroom right above the toilet, we are seeing some water dripping down from the seams of the aluminum panels.

wet floor.

From just the few hours of rain this morning, we have a little puddled on the floor that has formed. We have not had leaks like this before but we also have not yet had rain like this either. Whatever happened to the ‘hurricane-test’ they conduct at the dealership?

The rest of the afternoon consisted of Ava playing video games on NickJr.com.

And Yoda checking out what those loud cracking noises were all about earlier.

Once we were sure that the lightning was not coming back, we cautiously headed outside to take in a little bit off the fresh post-rain air.

“How about those toenails?”

Um, I think these will need a little cleanup.

painting dada's thumbnail.

Even I got into the action by letting Ava paint my thumbnail. Ava thinks my thumbnail is beautiful with a little purple on it.

Tomorrow will be our last full day here in Miami before heading up the coast so we will try to squeeze in another day of sightseeing if the weather holds up.

over and out,

Leaks up high are the easiest to find. You’ll need to get up on the roof, though. It will likely be (a) a missing rivet; (b) a caulk problem or cracked plastic around one of the vents; (c) tiny Florida leprechauns with squirt guns. Keep in mind that water travels, and so the leak point on the outside may be fore or aft of the interior drip. A pressurized leak test annually is a good idea.
