Today is the day after our first Airstream Thanksgiving and what did we do today? We decided against doing any shopping on Black Friday and chose to eat leftovers, of course, and to take it easy once again. The campsite we have here at James Island County Park is nice because we are parked next to a large grassy area that allows the kids to safely run around without worrying that they are too close to the street.
The downside of taking it easy all day is that one (or more) of the kids can get a little Airstream fever. And today it obviously hit Mila. Ok, ok, fine. We’ll venture out of the campground today.
James Island and Charleston are connected by this small bridge that runs over the intercoastal waterways of the Atlantic Ocean.
And where there is water, there are boats. And when there are boats, there is nonstop chatting about boats from my driver. But luckily for me, I have learned to tune him out over the past 10 years of marriage.
I have a cousin that lives in Jacksonville, Florida that we didn’t get to see during our last cross country trip back in 2010. He is in the Navy and I guess that keeps him just a little busy protecting our country. This time the stars aligned and dinner with Chris was happening right here in Charleston. Burgers and beers sounded good to all of us so we decided on the Southend Brewery.
Don’t let the shirt fool you. Chris and his friend were actually on their way up to Myrtle Beach for a Megadeth show. Yes, the band is still around… and are probably old fogies by now!
It was nice catching up with Chris today. The last time we saw him was at Ava’s 5th birthday party and Luka was still in my belly. We hope to catch up with him again in Florida. Maybe even do Christmas in the Keys. That is if we can find a spot down there. We are betting on some last minute cancellations or some open walk-up spots. It sounds crazy not to have reservations for down there but we are hoping for a Christmas miracle.
By the time we got back on the road and headed back to the campground, there was a long line of cars stopped down the street from the park enterance. Whoops! We forgot all about the Holiday Festival of Lights., unlike everyone else in town.
But the kids were excited to see all the lights again so we cranked up the Christmas tunes and drove 2 mile-an-hour around the park. Our new Airstream friends that we met yesterday were parked right behind the pink flamingo display. How perfect is that!
And if you are wondering how the kids are doing on this trip, they are doing great. It’s been a great 113 days so far. The girls have their moments of missing their Nona or missing their favorite restaurants back home but for the most part they understand they are on the adventure and home will be there when we get back.
the end,
marlene
