So a day of rest did nothing for my sore throat. But I did get some rest. Luka took a lot of naps with me yesterday. So much so that I thought his nighttime sleep might be screwed up because of it. But oh no, he slept thru the night. Thank you, Luka! Kids are funny. A crappy day of sleep leads to a crappy night of sleep. And opposite is true too. At least for my kids.

Since a day of rest didn’t do the trick, I thought I would drown myself in a huge bowl of pho instead. The restaurant might have been in a sketchier part of town and I might have seen a drug deal go down in front of it, but is was pretty darn good.

We tried to take a peek at Churchill Downs on our way back to the house but it was packed. We really don’t know too much about horse racing. Not really sure if we like the idea of it but thought we would try to check it out. I guess I am not as educated as I should be in how the horses are treated, etc. Because it was a race day and so packed, we decided to not to check it out after all.

We ended up drive thru the campus of the University of Louisville on the way home. I love all the old buildings in this town. We don’t really have any brick building back in earthquake-ville.

The girls have never carved pumpkins before. Weird, right? I think so too. They love the Mrs. Potato Head accessories that they sell during Halloween so much that carving them never same up. But we are shaking things up this year! Ava got to design her very own pumpkin this year. She choose a pretty princess face, of course.

And when it was time to clean the guts of the pumpkin, Ava refused to put her hand in there. REFUSED.

And you know what that means? Miss Mila the Copycat refused to clean her pumpkin out also. What pumpkin, Mama? I only see this sweet little dog. So Carrie and I had to do the “yucky” part.

Ava’s princess design came out really well even though our cutting sorta morphed it into a Minnie Mouse with a freaky mouth and elongated earlobes. Mila wanted me to carve her a kitty cat so that is what I did. Maybe she was thinking about our cat, Yoda, who is currently living the our Airstream at the storage yard for a few days.

Here comes Halloween. Here comes Halloween!!

Day 87: Pumpkin carving and the Victorian Ghost Walk.

Tonight, Carrie invited me to go on a The Victorian Ghost Walk thru Old Louisville. Although the visitor center in this historic neighborhood offers ghost walks throughout the year thru Old Lou, during Halloween time the community gets involved and you are able to go thru and even into some of the old Victorian homes.

Before Carrie and I left the house, Ava was begging to go with us. She proclaimed that we was a big girl and would not be scared. I felt a little like a jerk to leave her behind at the house with Dan and her younger siblings but thank goodness I did. She would have peed her pants within the first minute of this thing. No, no one jumped out at us. It was just super dark and the costumed actors did an awesome job at being creepy.

And speaking of creepy, check out the Stick Witch. I had some inside scoop that this was David Dominé, author of the bestselling Ghosts of Old Louisville series.

The tour consisted of us walking thru the central park and surrounding neighborhoods. Most of the reenactments took place right in front of the house where the specific ghost haunting supposedly occur.

Some reenactments were held on an adjacent property. Not sure if the owners of the house didn’t want to involved or if the lighting was better next door.

It was a real treat to get to go inside some of these Victorian homes. This one is owned by the people who make the delicious aged bourbon chocolate treats in town, called Happy Balls. Dan got a box of these treats for Christmas, and I might have “accidentally” ate them all. Yup, that good.

The guy that lived here supposedly stabbed his wife to death and then hung himself and they still come around to “visit”. This one freaked me out the most. The full moon. The yelling. The back drop. Maybe I should have stayed home with Ava too 😉

And yes, I still have a sore throat. Maybe a Falls City beer at the local dive bar will do the trick. Haha.
