Day 43: Minnesota Children’s Museum in St. Paul.

The campground is starting to fill up a bit as today is Friday and we are no longer the only people in our loop. The weather here has been great although it can change at the drop of a hat. We are here for another couple more days and we still need to try to squeeze lots of visits in before we leave. Today, we have some housekeeping to do as well as some sightseeing so we got to it bright and early. At our pace, that is around 11am.

Day 40: A day trip to St. Cloud, Minnesota.

We woke up this morning and noticed that a bunch of our dish towels under the sink were soaking wet. No, someone wasn’t feverishly washing dishes and drying them off while we slept. After a closer look, we found that the connection at the upwards portion of the ‘U’ pipe of the sink drain had worked itself loose. Thank God we had those towels there or we might have had a lot more water in hard to clean places. And that, was the most exciting thing we have done for the last 2 days.

Day 39: Catch up with life in Clear Lake.

Today we are once again going to stay put at our campground. Four full days of travel kind of kicked us in the you-know-what. So we are going to do our best to avoid getting in our van today. Challenge accepted!

We started off our day with a little homeschooling lesson about geodes. Back at the museum in Deadwood, we bought some geodes for the girls and they have been begging for us to crack them open ever since the gift shop lady handed us the receipt. Not at all annoying, kids. Not. At. All.

Day 35: Little House on the Prairie in De Smet, South Dakota.

We second straight night of boondocking and our second straight night at Cabela’s was nice and uneventful. Once again we woke up late and was the last one in the parking lot to leave. Since Cheyenne, Wyoming we have not had any Sprint coverage on our phones and data card. We have been limping along with minimal roaming capabilities on them and WiFi connections wherever we can find them.

Day 32: Mila’s Labor Day birthday in Deadwood!

Dear Mila,

Today was your 3rd birthday.

You went to sleep the night before as a 2 year old, living in an blue and white striped Airstream… and you woke up as a 3 year old in a pink princess explosion Airstream. In the morning, the first thing you screamed out (since your volume control is broken) is that there were two balloons everywhere. You say two for anything greater than one. It’s cute to us but now that I am typing it out, maybe we should start correcting your vocabulary. Nah! And we weren’t playing a practical joke on you with that huge gaucho pillow wedged next to you on the floor. It’s actually there every night so you don’t hurt yourself on Ava’s bed in the middle of the night.
Still sleeping.

Day 30: Welcome to Deadwood Gulch of the Dakota Territory.

One of our favorite types of places to visit has to be old western towns. There are none more famous than the city of Deadwood in South Dakota. We have been traveling through some of the most well known trails of the old west to get here to Deadwood. Back in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, we missed a visit to Doc Holliday’s grave in their cemetery. While we were in Golden, we had all the intentions of going to see Buffalo Bill Cody’s grave but we missed that, too. We are determined to spend some quality time here in Deadwood, where some of the most famous western folk heroes in history made their names.
