This morning we woke up to our last morning in Oregon before heading into the state of Washington. Our experience in Astoria has been amazing. It was exactly the kind of visit to a new city we always wish for: Seeing it like a local instead of a tourist.
Last night we got to Astoria to find that there are no Walmarts or truck stops that allow overnight parking. In a pinch, we contacted a Facebook friend we met last time we drove through Austin, Texas who have since relocated here to Astoria. Greg and Jenn of BareNakedFamily.com.
While we were boondocking at the parking lot of the Tillamook Air Museum last night, we met another couple from Washington state taking advantage of the free camping opportunity. They had not camped here before either and if it wasn’t for them already being there, we probably would have left to find another spot
One of the benefits of having kids is that they wake you up at dawn and you get to take pictures of the sunrise.
Our stay at Beachside State Park lasted only a couple of days as we will need to move on today. We had a few pieces of wood and instead of carrying it around, which you are not suppose to, we had a little morning fire before we left.
It’s finally time to dust off the old blog and try to catch up to where we have been this past summer. I am still going to attempt to write a daily post of our summer trip to Canada so expect lots of photos and posts to come.
We have been moving along at a pretty fast pace so far and last night we finally stopped for a night at a proper campground. Until today, we have had sunny skies and couple that with a fair amount of driving, we have been able to top off our batteries even with a fair amount of furnace use at night.
We came to Coos Bay last night and stayed in the parking lot of the Mills Casino. They actually have a full hookup RV Park but we did not think we would stay more than the night so we just parked in their RV lot of free.
We woke up this morning in the parking lot of the Klamath Falls Walmart. We are officially in the state of Oregon. That is one more state off of our list towards our slow and steady march towards see all of America.
Last night we spent another night boondocking at Walmart. So far on this trip, we have not had hookups. At the speed that we are moving and the places we plan to be visiting, hookups do not look like they will be in our future. That is ok since so far we have sunny skies and mild weather. That will keep us boondocking for many nights to come.
After a brief night in Campbell, we are ready to head north out of the bay area. We have never taken the Mish north of the Bay Area in California before so this will be virgin grounds for her. Before that happens, we are making a couple of stops along the way. First stop, 1 Infinite Loop Cupertino, CA.
Last night we drove nearly 300 miles to get to San Martin, CA to stay at the Camping World parking lot. The last time we were here was in February, 2010 shortly before we left for our first cross country trip. We spent that night here with our battery practically dead. It was cold and we had no way of heating the inside of the trailer. Last night was a little different. We are older, wiser and much better prepared for parking lot nights than the greener versions of us over 3 years ago.
