The kids went back and forth for weeks if they should spend one of their favorite holidays in the city of Split or in the little village of Zastražišće, Hvar. They eventually settled on Halloween in the village. Their thinking was that it would more fun to run loose down paths they know very well and there would barely be anyone here staring at them wondering what in the world was going on. Ha. Croatia doesn’t celebrate Halloween and last year our oldest was very aware of puzzled faces as they ran around the small town of Komiža on Vis Island.
Someone is still not a fan of removing pumpkin guts.
Keep it down, kids. I’m trying to sleep over here.
Handmade Halloween decorations. Dan could NOT stop himself and had to make Pac-man to go along with the ghosts Ava made.
Look at these Jack-o-lanterns!!!
So proud of their work.
Ava decided to be a polar bear this year. We made a last minute trip to a mall in Split to finish up her costume. Mila has been eyeing this Stitch onesie for a year and finally got it a couple months back. Luka’s favorite movie is How To Train Your Dragon so he decided to be Toothless a few months back as well.
The kids got to knock on exactly one door this year. This is my cousin Goran and he was happy to hand out treats to his first ever trick-or-treaters.
But don’t worry. The kids collected plenty of candy. Just like we did last year, this year we organized a scavenger hunt in the village for the kids. Clues were placed in old trees, in churches, in old cars, etc. It’s not the American style holiday they know but I think it was enough fun to keep them happy all day.
I don’t think I’ve ever introduced Rio the village dog on this blog yet. He makes lots of appearances in my Instagram stories if you follow us there. He belongs to a little old lady in the village but loves the kids so much so he spends A LOT of time with us.
And puts up with our shenanigans.
After collecting candy, we visited the olive trees for an afternoon of harvesting. Yup, still in costumes. Ha.
And yes, Rio followed us there too.
And led the way back home when we were down for the day.
Are you sure you don’t have to go home, Rio?
Nope. I’m fine here.
Thanks for following along. I’m planning on making quick posts again.
Nothing fancy. Just posts to keep our memories flowing.
Here’s a little video of our Halloween that I put together for Instagram.
Thanks again for following along,
Marlene
