You know what’s real heavy? These two big solar panels that we fused together on day 14. We had some concerns on how the heck we were going to get them on top of the van without damaging them, our van or ourselves. Luckily, it all worked out.
A morning trip to two different Home Depots and a Lowe’s got us all the parts we need to start working on the floors and walls.
The kids don’t seem too impressed with our window. Haha. Come on, kids! So much blood, sweat and tears went to install that tiny thing.
Last night, Dan actually drilled a solar pre-wire hole in hopes that we could cross it off the list and thus be able to re-install the headliner today. But after a late day of installing windows, it wasn’t the best choice because today we realized that we skipped a couple steps. We forgot to install a rubber grommet to prevent wire chaffing and also forgot to paint the exposed metal. Doh. No worries. It all got done today. For the project we bought this solar panel cable entry cover.
Today we are not only cutting one hole but two. One for the 2nd roof van and one for our first window.
Our littlest adventurer turned 6 today. SIX! It’s crazy how fast the years go. I’m so grateful to be able to spend everyday with him and the rest of my crew.
Guess what we did today? We cut a hole in our new van… on purpose. Haha. Yup. Today is the day we installed our Fan-Tastic Vent Fan. Our friends at Dometic sent us one of these months ago for the FWC camper but we never got a chance to install it so it’s going into our Sprinter now.
Before we get into day 7 of the van build, I need to document the story of saying good-bye to our old rig. The day started bright and early with us headed to LAX at 6 am. You see, we sold the rig to a couple of fellow Airstreamers and today was the day they are flying to California to pick it up.
Good morning! We didn’t sleep the best last night. Tossed and turned a bit over our crinkle on the other side of the van. We were a bit hesitant to go outside just in case any other warping happened but thankfully nothing else happened while we slept. Dan even thought it might have looked a little better today. We started off day 6 of our build by ordering some windows for the van. We decided to forgo the more used CR Lawrence windows for the Artic Tern ones from Tern Overland.
When considering building out our own van, some of the more intimating items included running propane, installing windows and using spray foam. Today we get to check one of those items off of our to do list: spray foam.
