On our way out of Seward, the sun decided to finally say hello, making our stop at Cooper Landing a more pleasant one. Our littlest, Luka, immediately grabbed a “fishing pole” and got down to business. Come and get it, salmon!
The girls on the other hand preferred to collect small pieces of wood to make tiny boats, hoping their creations can stay afloat on top of the chilly lake.
Nice green sail, Ava!
The main reason for our stop at Cooper Landing is to grab a bite to eat at Kingfisher Roadhouse. The bar and restaurant are owned by our friends, Dominic, Shannon and family. We’ve spent some time with them while boondocking in Anza Borrego for the past two winters. They spend their summers up here working at the roadhouse and then spend the rest of the year roaming the lower 48 in a trailer.
Fish tacos, burgers and meatball sandwiches for the win.
Look at the view from our table. Sigh. We can totally imagine ourselves spending more summers in Alaska. This one summer will definitely not be enough. Actually, Dan’s ready to spend a whole winter too… but he’ll have to do that solo. Haha.
After our delicious meal, we got invited back to our friends’ property for the night. As soon as we got there, Dan checked out the internet connection which was too slow for his work week so decided to just make a day of it instead.
The kid’s immediately got down to business. New toys to play with and trampolines to bounce on.
And chickens! We tried catching these two but they didn’t feel like snuggling with us today.
We were also treated to delicious local tacos with fresh guacamole! Oh, fresh fruit and vegetables are hard to come by here in Alaska so guacamole was an especially good treat for us.
Luka wasn’t really into their tacos so he decided that grabbing ice from the beer bucket and shoving into a tortilla was a way better idea.
You got to try this ice taco. It is delicious!
Did someone say ice tacos?!?!?!
Looks like Luka wasn’t the only one into soggy tortillas. Eat up, chickens!
It was wonderful to spend time with locals and spend the day laughing. Thanks for the good times, friends!
Off to find a speedier internet connection! Bok bok.
Thanks for reading,
Marlene
