Boy oh boy! When we are on the road for an extended trip, I blog my little heart out every single day. No excuses. But when we take a little weekend trip down the street, it takes me over a month to finish a post! Shame on me. Shame. Shame. Soooo here it is. The long overdue and last post of our FOTR West Coast Rally trip at Newport Dunes.
Our morning began with a bit of a surprise. Wha-what?!?! We didn’t get to enjoy activities at everyone’s sites today? We had to host one ourselves!! US!!! AHHHHH!!!!! So here we are at IHOP. Bright and early. Waiting for Target to open.
Me… still in shock.
Ava… enjoying the hell out of her pancakes.
And the winner is… Play-Doh. It was the best thing we could come up with on short notice. Ava couldn’t wait to get her hands on all the colors.
Okay. We’re ready people. Let’s do this!!
The first group at our site was Ava’s group, a.k.a. the little kids. The little kids had fun making patties and balls. And we had fun making sure they didn’t consume too much.
After the little kids were done at our station, Dan was in charge of keeping all other age groups entertained with the Play-Doh. So he stayed at our site while I took Ava around to the other art stations.
Most of the other families were a bit more creative than us. One of Ava’s favorite activities was making her very own ice cream. She got to shake a zip-locked milky mixture that sat in a larger zip-locked bag of ice. After 5 minutes of shaking the crap out of it, Ava had ice cream. Don’t ask how it happened. It was a miracle. A real miracle.
She also got to play bocce ball with the other kids her age. Truthfully, I am surprised no one got knocked out. They were throwing those balls around as if they were balloons or something.
By the time art and crafts were done, Dan had made an entire monster graveyard with the older kids. Not sure who was having more fun at our ‘kids’ station.
That afternoon we hit the local outdoor mall for a change of scenery and a merry-go-round ride. Who am I kidding? It was a reward for our fantastic Play-Doh extravaganza! Dan has never had a chance to take Ava on one of these alone so now was his chance.
Thanks for following our first FOTR Rally adventure. Hope to see you on the road soon!
the end,
Marlene
