Day 160: Meeting Boxfotos and a tour of a TV station.

For the last couple of weeks, we have been corresponding with a facebook friend about our visit to Tampa. Some of you might have heard of Matt and Rebecca of Boxfotos. Matt kindly offered to give us a tour of his workplace which happens to be WFLA of Tampa. They are also the NBC affiliate of the greater Tampa area. We have never been on a tour of a TV studio so we gladly accepted his offer.

Day 159: Back to Fort De Soto County Park.

Last night we spent the night alone at a Cracker Barrel. Well, we thought we are alone until we woke up to find out we had neighbors. This is actually an overflow/RV parking lot for the Cracker Barrel that was across the street from the actual restaurant. We were a little hesitant about parking here because the restaurant parking lot says “no overnight parking” but this lot across the way only had a phone number for the local tow company on it so we figured it was safe.

Day 156: Beach day at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.

This morning we took some time to do some spring cleaning. All the fabric off of the dinette and gaucho seating were taken off and are being washed in the outdoor laundry room at the campground. Even though we have light color fabric, the fabric doesn’t stain too much due to being made from outdoor sunbrella fabric. And why did we pick today to do some spring cleaning? Well, we *might* be on television in a few days. More on that to come…

Day 154: Final keys stop at John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park.

Our stay at Curry Hammock has officially come to an end. Our camp spot was the one tucked to the left of that palm tree, in between one of the campground hosts and the dump station. Too bad our hose couldn’t reach the dump from our site. Haha. Truthfully, we actually did fine with no sewer hook-ups for the four nights that we stayed our last spot. Doing dishes is always our downfall with water consumption. We really should get a more efficient faucet.

Day 149: Taking a bath in the sink.

It is really hard to tell when pets gets sick. For us, we really have to be in tune with behavioral changes. Five years ago, when we finally realized that our dog Rudy was sick with pancreatic cancer, it was too late to help her. Our animals are so good at hiding their illnesses, a little too good. Sure it helps them when they are in the wild, but the days of being in the wild for these domestic creatures are long gone. 11 days ago, we took our cat Yoda into the local vet to get pumped up with antibiotics for her bladder infection. The reason we took her into the vet is because she was acting strange, avoiding her normal routines. 11 days later she is feeling a little better. Today she even tolerated a nap on our bed with Luka. Hopefully she will be back to her old self in no time.

Day 148: More of the same for another week.

When I told Marlene that I wanted to spend 4 weeks in the keys, she looked at me as if I was nuts. Our last visit to Florida, we spent an entire month in the state meandering along its entire coast line. To think that we are going to spend the same amount of time but only in these little islands south of Miami, she thought we would for sure be sick of it before too long.

Day 146: Leaving Long Key for Curry Hammock.

We would have preferred to stay longer at Long Key but our site is being taken over by an incoming camp host today. That means our stay will be cut short at 11 days instead of the 14 days that is allowed at maximum. As of a few days ago, we had 4 days between our stay here and Curry Hammock that is unaccounted for reservation-wise. Luckily for us, a cancellation popped up over there and we were able to grab yet another last minute reservation at one of the 4 very coveted state park campgrounds here in the keys.
