Thank you for visiting MaliMish.com. If you were wondering, the name Mali Mish is Croatian for ‘Little Mouse’. It’s the name that we have bestowed to our 2007 Airstream International 25FB Ocean Breeze. It is pronounced ‘Mah-Lee Mish’ and commonly and lovingly referred to in this blog as ‘The Mish’.
We are a young family of 5 traveling and seeing the country in our Airstream trailer. We started this blog back in 2007 when we were new parents to our 9-month-old baby girl Ava. Since then, we have traveled across the country from California to Florida’s Key West. Our family has grown from 3 to 5 with the addition of little sister Mila in 2009 and baby boy Luka in 2012. With the new additions to our family, it has only made our passion for the road stronger than ever. Although we are technically not a full-timing family on the road, we spend an average about 4-6 months on the road each year. Most are consecutive days in extended trips lasting from 2-4 months and others are week-long trips in the western part of the United States. Our most recent trip took us back across the country over a 7 month period starting from July 2012 to March 2013.
We use this blog as a way to document our lives on the road during extended trips with daily posts of our encounters. If you are new to the blog, here are a couple of extended trip we have taken:
The Cast and Crew of Mali Mish
Mali Mish is our 2007 Airstream International Ocean Breeze 25 foot travel trailer. We found her in southern California when her dealership went out of business and had all of their inventory repossessed. Through the help of another Airstream dealership, we were able to purchase her for a great price while keeping all of the benefits of buying a new trailer from an authorized Airstream dealership. She came loaded to her teeth with options and we have since added a pair of 50-watt solar panels to help in our boondocking adventures. Our 2007 GMC Savana Extended Diesel custom van is the other half of the dynamic duo that keeps us rolling along safely down the road.
Dada Dan (Read Dan’s Posts)
When Dan is not chauffeuring around his family of 5, he can be found looking down at his smartphone trying to find the next great boondocking spot. As a self-employed web developer, he is able to work on the road to support his vagabonding addiction as long as there is some way to jack him into the interwebs. His favorite place to visit is somewhere in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina.
Mama Marlene (Read Marlene’s Posts)
Marlene is born and raised in southern California. After spending her entire life living in the golden state, she is finally hitting the road to see where the rest of America lives. As the daughter of Croatian immigrants, she is credited for naming our Airstream trailer. Addicted to General Hospital on ABC, her top priority, next to the family, is how not to miss the Luke and Laura flash back montages during November sweeps. When she is not watching soap operas or keeping the kids busy with activities, she is trying make her ways back to her favorite city: The historic and beautiful Savannah, Georgia.
Big Sister Ava (Read Ava’s Posts)
Ava loves birds, cats, dogs, rainbows and the color pink. As the big sister to Mila and Luka, she leads them into mayhem on the road whenever the opportunity arises. Her favorite activity to do while we are traveling is doing art projects and going swimming. Therefore, her favorite destination is no other than poolside at a great hotel in Palm Springs, California.
Little Sister Mila (Read Mila’s Posts)
Mila was born in the Summer of 2009. She spent the majority of her first year of life on the road in the Mali Mish and is a road tripping veteran. She loves her stuffed owl friend ‘Chuk’ and cannot be away from him at any cost. Her favorite person is her big sister Ava and wherever Ava wants to be is where you will find Mila. That said, where do you think Mila’s favorite place is to camp? Well, Palm Springs! Of course!
Baby Brother Luka (Read Luka’s Posts)
The baby of the group, Luka is a pampered prince. He’s taken over the tradition of riding in his mama’s ErgoBaby carrier from Mila. He can be found glued to Marlene and most likely sleeping through a majority of our adventures. His favorite trip happens to be his first ever stay in the Mish, The Ventura Ranch KOA in Santa Paula, California.
Yoda the Cat (Read Yoda’s Posts)
Yoda the cat is our mascot and loves sitting by one of our many windows in the Airstream as the sun shines through. The irony is not lost on us that our cat makes her home inside a trailer called ‘Little Mouse’. Yoda on the other hand is not real amused. Being an indoor cat, her favorite part of traveling is seeing some of the most amazing views through that back window.
