{"id":9023,"date":"2017-05-18T15:31:09","date_gmt":"2017-05-18T22:31:09","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/malimish.com\/blog\/?p=9023"},"modified":"2019-11-10T03:40:59","modified_gmt":"2019-11-10T11:40:59","slug":"mammoth-lakes-june-lake-california","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/malimish.com\/blog\/2017\/05\/18\/mammoth-lakes-june-lake-california\/","title":{"rendered":"Mammoth Lakes and June Lake, California."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After a windy few days in Lone Pine, we headed up the 395 highway to boondock outside of Mammoth Lakes for the week.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34194966410\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4180\/34194966410_d662e2c7e0_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->We ended up at an empty BLM spot near the airport that would accommodate us and our friends <a href=\"http:\/\/www.instagram.com\/meantforadventure\">Tori and Skyler (@meantforadventure)<\/a>. No one else around, beautiful landscape and friends near by. A perfect combination.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34581163985\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4189\/34581163985_77e0240eea_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Most of our days this week have been spent playing catch up since the things we wanted to explore near by are still closed due to snow. Devil&#8217;s Postpile and the Bristlecone Pine Forest will have to wait for another visit once again.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"33738046654\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4173\/33738046654_89b522255e_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Lone Pine California\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our roadschool curriculum is a mixture of workbooks, online apps and exploring the world&#8230; with a side of laughter.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34419313162\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4166\/34419313162_ba7124f388_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It also includes craft projects to remind us ladies that we are so many things.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34194967390\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4157\/34194967390_23ea06b4ce_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake i am project\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The girls were begging to wear make-up this week so I gave them the a-okay one afternoon. They were so pumped to apply some on themselves. I caught Luka grabbing my eye lash curler and trying to curl his lashes in the mirror. Afterwards, he checked himself out and made a super disgusted face. But his disgust didn&#8217;t last long once he agreed to the girls&#8217; request to give him some blush and a new hair do. Hehe. Look how excited Ava and Mila are.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34194969520\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4170\/34194969520_ff7f8e27d0_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Luka wanted in on helping with a make-over too so I got to get all fancy with them.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"33770965113\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4180\/33770965113_24175898bb_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One of the reasons we wanted to linger a bit longer than our usual pace in this area was because of all the hot springs in the area. And let me tell you. There aren&#8217;t too many things better than hanging out in a hot spring at golden hour surrounded by these snowy mountains and a cold beer in hand.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34194968850\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4165\/34194968850_2e79c3af19_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Trust me.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34450627981\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4171\/34450627981_55a3d4d154_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I hate driving in\u00a0the snow. It may appear that I&#8217;m adventurous but I will be the first to tell you that it takes a lot for me to live this way. I am super anxious in new situations, especially in situations where things can end in some type of disaster. \u00a0So when Dan mentioned we were going to check out a potential new site down a snowy road, I stated my concerns and held on the oh-sh*t-handle. I kept repeating to Dan that I didn&#8217;t think this was a good idea and he kept repeating that we are fine. And just as he repeated that we were fine for the fifth or so time, we got stuck. Seconds later, our buddies got stuck too. I saved my &#8220;I told you sos&#8221; for later.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34419313912\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4183\/34419313912_808d35ac7f_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Dan was able to get us out but our friends were really stuck and needed a tow to get them out of their spot.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34539917216\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4167\/34539917216_6d08092c9c_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Airing down the tires was one of tricks we used to get out of our jam. I drank a well deserved beer while the others aired back up.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34419313472\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4159\/34419313472_e131501858_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The kids didn&#8217;t care that we were stuck on snow. WATCH OUT!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"33738161454\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4184\/33738161454_a663a33310_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We were actually on our way to a hike for Tori&#8217;s birthday but because of our hiccup, we didn&#8217;t get too far and had to turn around before the sun disappeared.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34581164705\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4182\/34581164705_f434c89563_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Since our space is so small, we usually end up in their Airstream for happy hour&#8230; and puppy snuggles.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34419312952\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4189\/34419312952_fd0ffdccc9_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After a few days south of town, we packed up to avoid camping on dirt during the rain\/snow storm coming our way.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34194966950\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4181\/34194966950_63bf9f09af_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"34194966450\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4172\/34194966450_323d22590e_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The food at Mammoth Brewing Company is fantastic so to break up our day, we grabbed some school workbooks and spent some time at the brewery.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" id=\"33770963923\" src=\"https:\/\/farm5.static.flickr.com\/4167\/33770963923_c464b04ea9_c.jpg\" alt=\"Blog Mammoth June Lake\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The kids got a free sample of root beer. Let&#8217;s just say they didn&#8217;t enjoy it. It&#8217;s a bit pricey for a no hook-up spot but the views are spectacular. The pavement will be nice once the snow and rain starts plus the kids really wanted to ride on a smooth surface. As soon as we set up camp, the kids were off racing. Yoda is okay for the most part.
