First stop was a little fishing village called Bahia Asuncion on the Pacific 120 miles off of Mexico Highway 1. We did not know what to expect from the roads out there especially when it immediately turned into a short stretch of gravel. Luckily most of the remaining road was paved. Found a rugged and treacherous coastline at the end when we arrived at dusk.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1486\/24549859711_5c87cea230_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><!--more-->See those tire tracks in front of our truck? Dan wanted to follow them to the edge of the cliff. I am all HELL NO. Giving each other the evil eye for not agreeing is a daily occurrence around here. It&#8217;s actually a bit better without the Airstream in tow but still. Drive to the edge?!?! He&#8217;s nuts, right? RIGHT!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1695\/24264308759_6a7d17a9ea_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just take the damn photo from here, Dan. See? It&#8217;s nice (and safe).<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1680\/24523707092_bf4318cbc8_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We weren&#8217;t too sure if the cliff area was okay to camp on or not so we headed to the other side of the little fishing village of Bahia Asuncion to Campo Sirena campground.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1614\/24002369753_a2c6c87e62_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>As soon as we set up shop, the stray and not so stray dogs of town came to say hello. This is Todo. Paper maps and google maps are pulled up to\u00a0decide where to go as a group.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1701\/24333533130_51f8880796_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Sweet Todo. If we had room and you didn&#8217;t belong to anyone, I would have scooped you up. I&#8217;m sure grouchy old Yoda would love you.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1465\/24261487629_6105246778_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We had the choice to take the same road back out of Bahia Asuncion or a 60 mile dirt road along the Pacific to see something new. We will always choose the latter.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1572\/24756662835_dc369169ac_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1451\/24730468366_d1e49d8879_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1486\/24389015309_b98d85961d_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1573\/24128243934_461a79b485_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>After driving 60 miles of unpaved roads to Punta Abreojos from Bahia de Asuncion, we spent a night at Campo Rene.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1484\/24460882780_04c9759e7b_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1625\/24128218374_cba0d0b155_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our shared palapa was 75 pesos each for the night that sits up against an estuary. Sunday night was a local&#8217;s playground with a dozen families eating, drinking and playing all around. By Monday morning we were left alone there all by ourselves.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1647\/24129538553_a45e6e0ba1_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1523\/24638603372_5de3fb4851_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1633\/24128197064_538df37c28_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1558\/24661168281_c1887cff92_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>At the end of the dirt road, we expected some more sand and stray pups. Usually with fish in their talons.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1509\/24754472125_44fa0746fe_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>These two ended up building an enormous nest on top of the water tank.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1558\/24126811243_95b5445138_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1447\/24458966790_f0e291d085_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And ravens in pairs.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1613\/24458966400_b26b901914_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1522\/24386835439_1c5316231c_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s so weird for me to be awake before the kids. I ended up making some coffee and heading to a different spot in the estuary to do some bird watching.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1699\/24385943369_15c1732a8f_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately it was high tide so the wading birds were not here but something else happened. I heard a spout of water and saw dolphins swimming in front of me. Here&#8217;s a blurry pic to prove it.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1478\/24127698043_75b381d344_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Look who thought he could sleep in and see dolphins. Haha. Nice try, Dan.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1606\/24386888309_b1b05c5781_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I wasn&#8217;t the only one enjoying the birding around here. Yoda, our 13 year old cat, was pried to our truck camper windows.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1690\/24636750982_fb746d5a22_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1686\/24127674323_cc4704560f_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a shot of how we sleep. The kids sleep up on top on the queen bed, each in their own sleeping bags so no one complains that someone is touching them. Dan and I convert the 48&#8243; dinette below for our bed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1450\/24386871419_6ed8eeb09d_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>And there&#8217;s our porta potty. It stays out in the middle of the night in case the kids need to use it. We try to use public restrooms during day if they are available. If not, it&#8217;s pee in the sand or pee inside. The tank can hold 5 gallons of waste which Dan empties into a toilet or into the ground. We don&#8217;t throw any chemicals in our toilet because sometimes it ends up in a dug out hole.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1494\/24727414796_140480b3b8_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Our new camper finally feels like our home. I thought it would take longer to feel comfortable in our smaller space but it happened as soon as we crossed into Mexico. We loved our years in the Airstream but our souls were craving change. Change feels really good right now.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/farm2.static.flickr.com\/1478\/24126349594_68b2903dec_c.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On the other side of the mangroves sits the mighty Pacific Ocean.
