As we continued to head north, we were determined to make it to Oregon. Driving from southern California to Oregon is a long haul. It is right up there with driving across west Texas. It takes just as much time to get to the Oregon border as it would be from here to Canada.<\/p>\n

Just shy of Oregon, we made a quick stop at the Modoc National Wildlife Refuge for a little break. We didn’t see much wildlife at the refuge but the girls did a little journalling by drawing their favorite birds. I know, Marlene has successfully brainwashed them into bird nerds.<\/p>\n

Just north of the border, we decided to settle for a couple of nights. And when I mean just over, I literally mean it. This road that leads to the campground IS the CA-OR border. On the south side it is California and on the North is Oregon. Here is the Mish with its driver side in CA and passenger side in OR.<\/p>\n

There is a little town in Oregon right on the border and I would guess less than 50 people live here.<\/p>\n

This is the furthest north we have driven on US highway 395. If you didn’t already know, it is one of our favorite highways in all of the land.<\/p>\n

We were initially concerned about being able to find a place to camp since we got here right on Memorial Day weekend.<\/p>\n

I am sure all along the beach the campgrounds are completely jammed packed. Here at Goose Lake State Park, Oregon, we pretty much got to pick any site we wanted.<\/p>\n

On Google Maps, Goose Lake looks like this massive body of water. In reality, most of it is dried up and very little water is left in it. Someone in CA must be siphoning it up for their use with the historic drought that is going on.<\/p>\n

The kids pretty much lived outside by the picnic table as the weather is starting to turn for the better as we head lower in elevation.<\/p>\n

This little guy got a bit too comfortable with his surroundings and managed to split his forehead on the concrete pad jumping around the campsite.<\/p>\n

Time to head into town for a little emergency medical supplies.<\/p>\n

Was it obvious what I was about to do when I bring these three items to the check out lane at the grocery store? The checker just looked at me and said, “looks like a big job.”<\/p>\n

Well, he glues back together pretty well. I guess this is what having a boy is all about.<\/p>\n
