Hi there. I’m Ava and welcome to the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum<\/a>!! I got into the museum for FREE but my parents had to pay $13 bucks each. I guess they are in the 13 years old and over category. Who knew?!?

There are many knowledgeable people scattered all around this mostly outdoor museum. Like this lady. She kept going on and on about a tortoise. I’m not sure if she forgot to drink her coffee this morning or what, but that is a turtle, my friend. A. Tur. Tle.

\nJust as you round the first corner, you’ll run smack into some desert loving animals. Check this mountain lion out!

Looks like someone is ready for nap. Yawn.

Most of their animal exhibits are living exhibits. Which means that the exhibits simulate the animal’s natural habitat and that the animals are native to the Sonoran Desert region. Awesome! And they also participate in the federal recovery program for the Mexican gray wolf<\/a>. Which is awesome too. I just hope if this guy ever gets released back into the wild, he stays far away from my friend, Little Red Riding Hood.<\/p>\n

This place also has water exhibits which include beavers and otters. Check out this otter. See him? He just dove into the water and there is a stream of bubbles trailing behind him. See him now?

The rams at the museum were taking a nap. Booooring. So check me out. I’m the cute one on the bronze ram.

A couple of the coolest parts of the museum are the aviaries.\u00a0 First off, they have the ‘world-famous’ hummingbird aviary. My Mama rehabs orphaned baby hummingbirds in her spare time so she has a real soft spot for them. There are 7 different species in this aviary that buzz around as you walk through. They live here year around, obviously, build nests and have successfully fledged over 100 offspring.

Secondly, they have the ‘walk-in’ aviary that houses cardinals, quail, ducks, doves and nearly 40 other species. And in case you didn’t know, this is a cardinal. A Northern Cardinal, to be exact. A handsome male wearing his winter plumage.
