After a few nights of wild camping at a lake, we headed towards the Saharan Desert. But first lunch.<\/p>\n

The fake dinosaur and baby camels hooked us in.<\/p>\n

We all shared a delicious chicken tajin meal, a huge pile of bread and freshly squeezed orange juice.<\/p>\n

Rugs as bench covers and a soft kitty made this stop even sweeter.<\/p>\n

Full bellies so now we can head towards the Erg Chebbi sand dunes in Merzouga, Morocco.<\/p>\n

Getting closer to our destination and feeling excited! The dunes as seen through Luka’s cvan window.<\/p>\n

Instead of wild camping with no services, we opted to camp at Haven La Chance. It was 50 dirhams (5 euros a night) for a couple but with kids it was 70 dirham (7 euros). With this much sand, it was awesome to have a nice warm showers at the end of the day.<\/p>\n

First order of business for the kids once we set up the van? Boogie boards \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n

It wasn’t as fast as they hoped it would be but still had fun.<\/p>\n

Our spot was perfect. At the base of the dunes where camels pass by every morning and evening. Check out the view from our van’s sliding door. So awesome!<\/p>\n

The campground is also a hotel with a restaurant and pool. Don’t worry. We rinsed off the boards before taking them into the cold pool. And when I say cold, I mean cold. Kids didn’t last too long in there.<\/p>\n

We spent our days doing roadschool (or worldschool or homeschool or whatever, haha) and working using their WiFi. Coffees where a 10 dirhams (1 euro) and freshly squeezed OJ was 15 dirhams (1.5 euros).<\/p>\n

We love our Dometic PLB40<\/a> for days like these. Dan can work and power his laptop while not being tethered to the van’s electrical system.<\/p>\n

No, we never got tired of seeing camels (actually, they are the one humped species called dromedaries) from our home.<\/p>\n

It was in the high 70s during our stay in the Sahara. Nice enough to spend the mornings and evenings outside the van when not at the pool during the mid-day heat.<\/p>\n

We really liked this corner spot at the campground and ended up staying 4 nights in total.<\/p>\n

The campground offered a sunset ride through the desert and we ended up signing up for it. I will do a separate post on the camel ride experience (and of our sunrise walk in the dunes).<\/p>\n
