Since tomorrow is Christmas Eve day, we have one last chance to go to town and stock up on everything we need for Christmas. While we were harvesting coconuts yesterday, one of the kids accidentally broke the neighbors water hose so we are also here to buy them a replacement.

Day 143: Last minute Christmas shopping.

We took advantage of the drive to grab lunch today in town. We opted for just a quick visit to the Mickey D’s. For those people who know me, I cannot resist the urge of the mystery pork concoction that is the McRib. It is back and I am there!

Day 143: Last minute Christmas shopping.

We did some last minute shopping for the kids and us at the Big K Mart in Marathon. Even though Marathon and Islamorada are about the same distance apart from Long Key, Marathon has 2 major grocery stores and a Big K. It is a much better place to come to stock up on supplies if you are staying in Long Key.

Day 143: Last minute Christmas shopping.

Outside the K-Mart is this under the sea mural. The girls insisted on karate kicking the shark repeatedly.

Day 143: Last minute Christmas shopping.

Marlene’s family has a tradition of eating fish on Christmas Eve as do a lot of Catholic families. We knew that the keys would offer a pretty good opportunity to buy some fish so we came to see what is available.  They had some freshly caught, yellowtail snapper from Key West for $7 a lb so we gladly snatch up 2 of them for our dinner tomorrow.

Day 143: Last minute Christmas shopping.

Back at the campsite, the girls passed time by watching RV staring Robin Williams. We watched this last time with friends we met on our last trip, Claire and Daniel, in Galveston. I didn’t quite identify as much before but now I can definitely see us as the Gornickes. Minus the cool Flxible Starliner bus and southern draw.

Day 143: Last minute Christmas shopping.

We finished the day with a little bit of art time with the girls. Mila is getting better each day at coloring and drawing. She might start making a run for Ava’s money soon.

Day 143: Last minute Christmas shopping.

No, we didn’t get 3 more cats sitting on Mila’s lap. Yoda would not approve of that.

over and out,
dan
